Nothing is known about John Sedgwick and his wife Ann, except that they have a lot of descendants. They had five sons, who migrated westward to Indiana and Illinois. Robert, James and Thomas and Gideon were in Cumberland County, Illinois for the 1860 census. Matthew alone stayed in Indiana. Two of Robert's sons moved to Texas. How far the family has spread is yet to be determined.

Who were John's parents? The answer is unknown. The best information we have about their origins is in the 1880 Census, Indiana, Shelby County. Son Matthew stated that his Father was born in Virginia and his mother in North Carolina.
