Census records:
Lavina is likely actually spelled "Lovina." Lyle D Sedwick reports it that way, and it is spelled that way in the 1880 census, but the marriage record, her grave and the 1860 census report "Lavina."
James R Mclaughlin apparently married first a Nancy J [Unknown] and had at least one child with her; there is a gravestone at the Norwood Cemetery, where he and Lavina are buried, which appears to be the grave of his first wife. Her gravestone says "Nancy J, wife of J R McLaughlin, Aug 12, 1833 - May 15, 1862." This would agree with the marriage date of 1864 for JR and L. In the 1880 census they have a son Charles L McLaughlin age 19; I think he's son of Nancy.
