d. 16 Mar 1889, Ripley County, Indiana
m1 Hannah Graves, 2 Sep 1859, Ripley County, Indiana (licenses date)
m2 Nancy C (E?) Folsom, 8 May 1874, Ripley County, Indiana (marriage date)
Civil War Veteran

The earliest record we find of William T Sedwick is the record of his marriage in Ripley County, Indiana to Hannah Graves September 2, 1859. I have so far been unable to find them in the 1860 census, or to find him as a child in the 1850 census.

William served during the Civil War in Company K, Indiana 68 Infantry. He enlisted on 8/19/1862 as a private, listed as "William F Sodwick," and gave his place of residence as Moore's Hill, Dearborn, Indiana. He was discharged for disability just eight months later on 4/30/1863.

We find William back home with Hannah in the 1870 Census, but she died May 11, 1873. She is burried in Johnson Twp, Ripley, Indiana, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, jsut northeast of Versailles. There is a will recorded for her in Book C pages 589-590.

William and Hannah had a daughter apparently born in June of 1860. There is a cemetery record at Pleasant Hill Cemetery of a Mary E Sedwick, d/o Wm T and Hannah, d 29 June 1864, age 4y, 11d.

William married Nancy C Folsom on May 8, 1874, again recorded in Ripley County, Indiana. They appear in the 1880 Census. There is a record at Pleasant Hill Cemetery of a Sedwick infant, son of Wm T & N E Sedwick, b 15 July 1873, d 16 July 1873. Thse dates would appear to be erroneous.

William died 16 Mar 1889, and is also buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The cemetery record lists his birth as April 30, 1839. Nancy is also listed in the records of Pleasant Hill Cemetery, with no death date, but the birth date of December 6, 1837. GG-Grandson Benjamin Deetsch tells me that she is believed to have died about 1919.

I have identified a possible suspect to be William's father: A J Sedgwick, b. about 1813 in Virginia, appears in Scott County, Indiana Census and 1880 Marion County, Indiana Census. (I would suspect from his location in the Hospital for the Insane, that he miay have suffered from Alzheimer's Disease in his old age.) I have also been unable to find him anywhere in 1860 and earlier census records.

Do you know anything about any of these Sedwicks? If so, please contact us.
