Rose's great-grandfather John Farrington was a Revolutionary War veteran. She and her mother Albina Farrington Sedgwick were members of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Douglas Keith was secretary to the Superintendant of the California Institute for the Deaf and Blind in Berkeley, and in 1909 was himself elected superintendent. He held the position about two years. He apparently went from there to the "Industrial House for the Adult Blind," as at the 1920 census he was Superintendent of that institution.
