Varney A Sedgwick, son of William Henry Sedgwick, was born in 1842 in Tennessee. He served during the Civil War in the Dallas County Missouri Home Guard from June 24 to September 24, 1861 then joined the Missouri 24 Infantry on October 14, 1861 he died about a year later of disease, October 22, 1862 at Saint Louis, Missouri and is buuried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
