SEDGWICK FAMILY TREE

This is the start of what I have been working on for years. The earliest records come from the Bolton Abbey* Parish records, in Yorkshire*, York* County, England. Other things came from talking to various family members. The family bible, which Aunt Mame has, was a great help. That is how I found my way to the oldest members. There are some interesting entries in the bible, one is that when the ship "Anna Kajamas" come in who ever has the bible will get a lot of money. Another is that you must put a penny on the windowsill on New Years Eve and you will then have good luck. One more that I can remember by mother also saying is does not rock an empty rocking chair, because someone will die. It also says in the bible that you do not put your shoes on the table. That are only some of the things written.

From there I went to the Mormon Library and found the old parish records. To everyone who helped me through this I give a great big THANKS.

The first name that I have found is JOHN SEDGWICK, he married ANN LEVENS, and (probably they were born around 1718). JOHN had a brother named GEORGE. JOHN and Ann's children were:

• FRANCIS SEDGWICK, (of Wensleydale Hosier) who married Isabela Hunter, (daughter of John Hunter of Dent Husbandman and Martha Dodgson (daughter of James Dodgson of Skipton Blacksmith and Elizabeth (daughter of ____ Galloway of Skipton). Their children were:

• 1A. GEORGE SEDGWICK, who was born March 1769, and baptized on Dec 6, 1792. He married ANN BENSON, who was born in 1768, and died on Nov. 1 1799, buried on Nov. 4, at age 31. Their children were:

• 1A-1.THOMAS SEDGWICK, who was born Feb. 27, 1795, and baptized on March 22, 1795.
• 1A-2.FRANCIS SEDGWICK, who was born February 13, 1797, Baptized on May 7 1797. He married ABBEY WILBUR, who was born in 1799, and died Oct. 14, 1838, at age 39. They were married in 1820. FRANCIS took in his grandchild RUSSELL when he was orphaned at 5 years old. Their children were:

• 2a.ANN SEDGWICK, who was born April 21, 1821, and died Dec. 3, 1881. She married SAMUEL W. HALL on January 15, 1857. They both lived in New York, and she did domestic work at the time of their marriage, but was married in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey.

• 2b.MARY SEDGWICK, born Oct 18, 1823, died July 6, 1843. She was 19 years 9 months of age.

• 2c.GEORGE SEDGWICK, born December 5, 1826. He married KATHERINE SAGENDORPH on September 20, 1855.

• 2d.RUSSELL SEDGWICK, who was born March 27, 1830. He died in March 31, 1861, he married EUGENA PARSONS, who was born November 28, 1834, and died October 13, 1862 at age 27. Their children were:

• d1. RUSSELL SEDGWICK, who was born in 1857, in New York City, NY, and died July 26, 1924. He was orphaned at the age of five and went to live with FRANCIS. He married CHARLOTTE ABBOT, who was born in 1864, in Rensselaer or North Greenbush, NY., and died November 30, 1926. They were married on March 6, 1880. Their children were:

• d1a. CHARLOTTE EUGENIA SEDGWICK, who was born February 26, 1897, at home in Rensselaer, NY., she died January 16, 1981 and is buried at Bethlehem Rural Cemetery, Bethlehem, NY. She married EDWARD BONACKER. Their children were:

• d1a1. EDWARD AUGUST BONACKER, who was born September 6, ? , in Rensslaer NY, died September 13, 1964. He lived in Rensselaer, NY. He married RITA CULNAN. Their children were:

• 1b.ALBERT SEDGWICK, who was born April 23 1889, and died August 31, 1948. He married JESSIE LAWSON. Their children were:
• b1. BETTY ANN SEDGWICK, who was born in 1934. She married THOMAS CALLAHAN.
• b2. CHARLOTTE JEAN SEDGWICK.
• 1c.GEORGE F. SEDGWICK who was born September 6, 1886, in NY., died April 11 1953, married SADIE CHILDS. GEORGE had TB, in the 1920 census he lived at 170 Clinton Ave. in Albany, NY. Later he lived in Lake Placid NY. Their children were:
• 1ca. GEORGE SEDGWICK who was born in 1912, he married MARY. Their children were:
• 1a.CHARLOTTE SEDGWICK
• 1b.DANIEL SEDGWICK
• 1c.DORA SEDGWICK
• 1ca. GEORGE F. SEDGWICK, He also married MABEL\MABLE DUNIGAN, who was born in 1885, in Vermont, and died March 17, 1964.
• 1cb.OSCAR T. SEDGWICK, who was born January 2, 1894, he was buried in 1962. He married KATHLEEN FRANK. OSCAR and KATHLEEN lived in Rensselaer, NY.

• 1e. CHARLES C. SEDGWICK, who was born March 24, 1899, buried in 1974. He married KATHERINE POWER. They lived in Watervielt, NY. Their children were:

• e2. RUSSELL SEDGWICK, who married MARGARET.
• e3. JOHN SEDGWICK
• e4. BETTY SEDGWICK.
• 1f.EDWARD R. SEDGWICK, Who was born November 4, 1880, died January 13, 1921. He married EDITH STILLWELL. Their children were:

• f3. EDITH M. SEDGWICK, married ______Guanine.
• f4. CHARLES SEDGWICK

• FRANCIS SEDGWICK, born in 1840. (?)

1AB.GEORGE SEDGWICK also married MARTHA DODGSON on November 11, 1802. Their children were:

AB1.ANN SEDGWICK, who was born November 13, 1804, and baptized on December 16, 1804.

AB2.JOHN SEDGWICK, who was born March 14, 1806 and baptized on June 8, 1806.

AB3.JAMES SEDGWICK, who was born May 8, 1808 and baptized on August 21, 1808. 

AB4.GEORGE SEDGWICK, who was born August 31, 1809 and baptized on December 17, 1809.

AB5.ELIZABETH SEDGWICK, who was born August 29 1811 and baptized on October 20, 1811.

1B.ELIZABETH SEDGWICK, who was born in 1773, and Baptized April 19, 1801. She was 28 years when she was baptized. She was a Quaker. She married GEORGE IBBOTSON. Their children were:

B1.ANN IBBOTSON who married THOMAS BROWN. Their children were

ROBERT BROWN, who was born November 10, 1802, and Baptized December 5 1802.

ISABELLA HUNTER, who was born November 6, 1804 and Baptized December 9, 1804.

I received this mail while on America on Line. It gives the location of Bolton Abbey, where the oldest of my records are from.

Bolton Abbey is alive and well in Yorkshire close to my home and where I was a few weeks back. It is an old Cistercian ruin in a small town of the same name 20 miles west of Harrogate my birthplace. It is near Skipton and in the general area of James Herriots books All Creatures great and Small. Good luck

Bolton Abbey is in Wharfedale in West Yorkshire and is mainly in ruins now. It is 2-3 miles N of Addingham, which is near Ilkley (I lived in Ilkley for some years).
