Thomas Sedgwick and family arrived at Launceston, Tasamania, 4 April 1843 aboard the Barque "Branken Moor" from London (Plymouth) via Cork. He was an indentured farm servant.⁵

Although Thomas's age was given as 33, Mervyn Sclater is sure of the birth year 1797, and observes,

"I have found very often that 'middle aged' men who grab a young girl, often put their ages down to conform with accepted behaviour."

Thomas's brother Matthew Sedgwick (1808 - bef. 1852) also immigrated to Australia. Matthew and his wife died young, and Thomas raised Their children along with his own.
