Thomas Sedgwick and family arrived at Launceston, Tasamania, 4 April 1843 aboard the Barque "Branken Moor" from London (Plymouth) via Cork. He was an indentured farm servant.5

Although Thomas's age was given as 33, Mervyn Sclater is sure of the birth year 1797, and observes,

"I have found very often that 'middle aged' men who grab a young girl, often put their ages down to conform with accepted behaviour."
Susan Woods confirms that the ages were quite "flexible," varying several years depending on the circumstances; an older immigrant might well understate his age, as age was a factor in qualifying.

Thomas's brother Matthew Sedgwick (1808 - bef. 1852) also immigrated to Australia. Matthew and his wife died young, and Thomas raised Their children along with his own.
